Marlene Watkins

Marlene Watkins is a versatile pianist who has performed across South Africa, Namibia, and Mozambique, in both classical and popular music. Her repertoire covers various genres on piano and keyboard.

Her memorized repertoire for piano which includes classical pieces and light music, numbers some 2000-odd memorized items. These include jazz standards, big band songs, country, music from the Broadway musicals, as well as more recent pop music.

Classically trained, Marlene holds a Masters degree from University of Natal, a Bachelor of Musicology degree from UNISA, and diplomas LRSM, ATCL (teachers). She has composed radio jingles, as well as commissioned songs, and she enjoys playing requests.  As accompanist, she has worked with Marloe Scott-Wilson, Jennifer Jones and violinist,  Jurgen Schwiettering among others. Marlene toured Kwa-Zulu Natal with Malcolm Terrey on his 'Jeeves' tour.

She has recorded several CDs for ballet, as well as for background music and relaxation

Marlene is on the Honours roll for Light Music in South Africa, and is also registered as adjudicator with the National Eisteddfod Academy.
