Biography

Ndithini Mbali is a promising, popular and soulful young saxophonist who has performed at various local festivals, and shared stages with some of South African's top musicians.

Ndithini, who comes from a musical Eastern Cape family, started playing saxophone at the age of 12, taught by her grandfather “Sax-O- Wills”, with whom she also performed at weddings, graduation parties, funerals and other live gigs whilst still a teenager.  She spent some time in Johannesburg where she performed as part of the all-female band African Jazz Maroons.  She later returned to the Eastern Cape in 2003, where she joined a Queenstown based band called The Heritage, which performed live at the late Chris Hani’s memorial.

In 2004 Nditini returned to Johannesburg, formed her own band, and started working on her solo album, MY WAY, which was launched in 2006.  She has shared stages with artists such as Mxo, Dorothy Masuku, Abigail Khubheka, Themba Mokoena, Bheki Khoza, the late Jabu Khanyile, Bhudaza, Zama Jobe, John Legend from USA, Ringo Madlingozi, Mc Coy Mrubata, Selaelo Selota, Mafikizolo, Maccoy Mrubata, Tidal Waves, Jabu Khanyile, Bhudaza, Zamajobe and Ntsiki Mazwai, amongst others.
